Youth around the world went on strike on Friday and continue to inspire us all to heed the warnings of scientists and stop burning fossil fuels.
So, how is California doing?
California is home to 72,000 oil wells that last year produced 165 million barrels of oil* from onshore and offshore facilities. California consumed 366 million barrels of gas in 2017*. In addition, California has some of the worst air quality and highest rates of respiratory illness in the nation.**
We can and must do better.
China already has a fleet of more than 420,000 electric buses, while the United States has 300.*** The technology already exists. We need to use it.
Tell your elected leaders that we must rapidly transition California away from fossil fuels toward an equitable economy that better serves us, our children, and all life – starting now.
