Community Energy Resilience Update

Next Community Energy Resilience Planning Workshop: Wednesday morning, June 9th 10-11:30 AM

It is not too late to sign up for the Community Energy Resilience planning workshop series, designed to provide tools and process tips and develop a community of practitioners working on community energy resilience planning. It is easy to catch up if you just missed the May meeting. The next workshop will take place on Wednesday morning, June 9th 10 -11:30 AM. You can register here. Take Action to Support Passage of the Community Energy Resilience Act

On Monday, May 24th the California Senate overwhelmingly passed SB 99, the Community Energy Resilience Act, sponsored by The Climate Center and authored by Senator Bill Dodd. If passed, the law will provide a pathway for communities to plan clean, resilient, local energy instead of relying on fossil-fueled generators. Please take action and send a message to your Assemblymember in support of SB 99.

 

DOE Releases Tool Tracking Microgrid Installations

Earlier this week the U.S. Department of Energy announced the release of a new, interactive tool tracking microgrids installed throughout the United States. The Microgrid Installation Database includes a comprehensive listing of the U.S.’s 461 operational microgrids. The information is presented in a tabular format to help users easily access and sort data, including a state-specific sort for California.

 

Governor Newsom’s Latest Budget Proposal Includes Funding for Community Energy Resilience

On May 14th Governor Newsom presented his updated state budget proposal for $267.8 billion which included items related to community energy resilience, including funding for community resilience center as well as funding for Climate Adaptation and Resilience Planning Grants. In response, various coalitions have put together letters urging the legislature to increase funding for community resilience; here are related budget letters put together by The Climate Center and the Local Government Commission. Lawmakers will be acting quickly to finalize the budget since the state’s new fiscal year starts July 1st.
